Hi, I’m Liah Malley!
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?
I was born in Hamilton, Ontario, and my passion for movement has been the driving force behind all my personal and professional endeavors. Throughout my life I have explored a variety of physical activities including competitive dance, soccer, track and field, flag football, and rock climbing. I studied English at McMaster University for my undergraduate degree, and earned a Master’s degree in Sociology at Queen’s University. I conducted a qualitative research project on the social barriers that prevent people from exercising. My love for movement & people, and desire to help people break down these barriers, led me to begin a career in fitness, as a yoga and barre instructor.
What led a nice Canadian lady to Boston so soon after graduation?
Well, I met my Bostonian husband while studying abroad in Australia during my junior year. He tried to convince me to cliff-jump off a 60 ft rock quarry, but instead I took an even scarier plunge… I married him, picked up my life, moved to Massachusetts and I never looked back.
I landed my dream job as a SoulCycle Instructor in 2015 after working in the fitness industry for a year.
I was promoted to Senior Instructor in 2019, and have worked ardently to build a strong, engaged community for the past 8 years. I have learned that I best motivate others by creating a fun, judgment-free atmosphere where people feel supported, challenged and empowered.
When the pandemic hit, I was determined to maintain my connection with Boston Soul riders. I began hosting free virtual full-body workouts on my Instagram and YouTube channels. After a year of exercising in my basement, I have watched the online community grow and thrive. My signature class, now known as The Malley Method aims to improve participants’ stamina, strength and confidence. I believe that having fun in the process of getting stronger yields the best results. I’ve had the opportunity to teach my signature strength class, in-person at Legacy Place in Dedham, MA through a 6-month sponsorship with PNC Bank. It has been incredible to see this pandemic experiment evolve and I am excited to see where it takes me next!
I believe that sweating is therapeutic & highly encourage #sweatyselfies post-workout!
My biggest accomplishment in life so far is being “mama” to my daughter, Summit and my son, Chase.
Being a mom is the most demanding, eye-opening, and rewarding job I have ever had.
Through my social media platforms, I hope to connect with and inspire others. I want to share my triumphs and failures to encourage others to take risks in their pursuit of a fulfilling life.
Being a working-mom is a balancing act, and caring for others while maintaining a strong sense of individuality is challenging.
I’m here to cheer you on.
